YOUTH CRICKET
We're excited to bring back Youth Cricket for the 2025/26 season, offering Year 9–10 and Year 11–13 grades. This social T20 format runs on Sundays with local fixtures and a three-day January festival, providing a great way for college-aged players to stay connected with the club, play alongside mates, and learn from senior players.
YOUTH GRADES

We are happy to share that Club Youth Cricket will be back for the 2025/26 season.

Like last season there will be two grades, Year 9-10, and Year 11-13. These will be based on the 2025 Year level of the student however there is flexibility for current Year 10’s to play in either grade and also current Year 8’s to play in the Year 9-10 grade as they finish their junior club cricket.

We're working hard to establish player pathways from Junior to Senior cricket, which recognises a gap in our format when players head to College and we lose connection. We're keen to keep all our past and present players connected to the club and club proud. We know many of our past players are continuing to play cricket at college which is fantastic, but some players may have also temporarily paused their cricket playing in pursuit of other interests.

Our youth cricket provides an opportunity for players to play in a more social format with their past clubmates, learn from our Senior players and provides extra playing opportunities over the summer in addition to College cricket.

We're hoping to establish two teams this season and build our Youth teams in the years to come. Encourage your past teammates to do so too. The time commitment will be x T20 games, and 3 days in the January school holidays. If the teams are successful, we hope to offer additional playing opportunities at future HB Cricket Tournaments.
FAQs
What is the cost to play?
This season, we've secured sponsorship to help limit costs and have worked with Wellington Cricket to have access to fields for free. There is no cost to register, but if you're able to donate a match ball at registration, that would be awesome.

What uniforms will we wear and do we need our own gear?
We'll be reusing past Senior player strips and you'll receive a KCC sun hat. You'll need your own cricket pants. Ideally, you'll have much of your own gear, but some team gear will be available.

I'm not playing cricket at college, can I play youth for the club?
Absolutely, we really want players who may not have enjoyed the competitive college format or may have prioritised other pursuits to have opportunities to keep playing cricket, and stay connected to Karori Cricket Club.

I can't commit to every game, but I can play some... can I still register?
Absolutely, we know our past players are busy juggling lots of commitments and their school work. We encourage you to register and let the team know what your availability is. Hopefully we'll have enough reserves to provide flexibility.

I'm transitioning to college next season, can I register?
Yes, we welcome players who will be playing in Year 8 cricket this season to register also. This will provide extra playing opportunities for you and a chance to play alongside current college players as you prepare to transition to college cricket.

What about Under 19s?
This will be a work in progress, and we hope that our to establish playing opportunities for these players. At this time, we don't think we have enough past players to establish a team, but if you know players who would like to play, please let us know. Our Senior teams are often looking for reserves and this might be a great place to start.

Are the teams mixed?
Yes, we welcome registrations from our past girls and boys.
