KTOWN 455-8 (Marshall 125 (87), Sewell 90(39), Youngie 83(87), Noster 68, Sole 24, Murdoch 21), Petone 285 (Taylor 100, Hartshorn 2-46, King 2-48, Youngie 1-30(10).
Not a bad way to kick of the cricketing summer of 2017/18 then....
It started well with Jono winning the toss and it was all up, up and away from there.
Hamish's first century for the club included some glorious strokeplay mixed with brutal aggression. He joined Peter Younghusband in a 3rd wicket partnership of 200 that included 14 sixes that laid the foundations for what was to follow.
Jono ensured no momentum was lost when both Marshy and Pete fell in quick succession scoring a quickfire 24 off 17 before Noster was joined by Sewell in the 37th over of the innings. Their partnership lasted for 10 overs and amassed 157 before Noster was dismissed in the 47th over. Jarred started slowly, he was 8 off 11 balls to start his innings, but ended on 90 off 39 with 82 runs coming from his last 28 deliveries faced. Sam hit probably the biggest six of the afternoon, a slog sweep that had the lads on the sidelines plotting the flight path google maps at 112m uphill.
Debutant Simon Mathewson ensured the total got over 450 with a few lusty blows to finish things off.
Petone were never really in it although they did well to reach 287. Their english pro seems a good player - scoring an even 100. It was great to see Harry back at the bowling crease, James Hartshorn and Henry King both bowled well picking up two wickets a piece but the pick of the bowlers was Youngy - who took 1-30 off his 10 overs, by far and away the most economical performance of the day!
Here's the Dominion Post take on the days play - they've reported it as an all time 50 over club record in Wellington. Well done lads! https://i.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/sport/98137272/hamish-marshall-starts-wellington-club-cricket-season-with-a-big-hundred
Next week we play North City at Linden Park - taking with us a fair bit of momentum and welcoming back Jakub Bhulla who was away on NZ u19's duty...
